Rhapsody of Blue

  1. hey, dad!
    I seriously love these photos!
I already told you, but will write it anyways, that the hummingbird pic is COOL- I am glad that you chose this one, since it is more vivid than the other one- it goes with the other pictures a little better with the brighter blue/ red.
Second photo is gorgeous- the blue with the bright red background just pops. I think the only thing I would try differently with this shot is to have the flower a little more off-centered.
    3. This one is neato cuz of the abstract nature of it- it makes me want to look at it more in order to figure it out. I can't believe how well that kid swims under the water already.
What I feel ties these together as a set is nature- bird, flower, water. Very cool!

  2. Hey Steve. Scott here, (Diana's brother).

Gotta chime in with Em on the hummingbird. That is an amazing action shot.

  3. So happy to see you back for another challenge! It's been a while. The first two images really jump out at me since they both have strong blue and red tones. It's such a nice warm/cool combo.

We're you shooting manual with the humming bird shot or did your camera just meter the exposure perfectly. Having more of a silhouette adds a little mystery and contest to the image.

Love LOVE LOVE the flowers, but agree with Em on moving the image over a bit. I don't know what it is about something being in the center of the picture..."rule" of thirds I suppose. The exposure in this one is beautiful as well.

I like the textures in the last photo, but again, there's a disconnect from the first two.

So glad to have you Steve! I hope you are able to join in in more challenges.

  4. My fav is the first: humming bird... the glow of the red humming bird feeder helps balance out the picture, and the bird against the sky is just amazing... I have tried to capture a humming bird but have never been able to capture it as well as you did.

  5. I really like the flower as my favorite, but also agree that I would have LOVED it a tiny bit off center. The humming bird is an awesome action shot! I'm torn because I wish the bird were a little bit brighter, but it does make the blue sky pop a bit more, which is the point of the series. What is the last one? I really can't tell if it is a person, a dolphin or something else. The blue is very pretty in the last one.

  6. Thanks for the comments. To answer some of your questions, I was debating about using another hummingbird picture with more bird detail, but the trade-off was losing the blue (I have hundreds of h-bird pics). The only tweaking was an on-camera, post-exposure adjustment to the exposure level of the hummingbird. I think I'll post one of the others with this set to satisfy the detail-oriented viewers. Thanks again!

  7. hey, dad- if you have time, could you upload the newer photo again and make sure that it is in the center layout (this will be in the "add image" section)- the "blue" hummingbird photo is being pushed out of the way and I can't see it on your page.
    Thanks!
